Áine Ní Chíobháin’s Autumn Collection

‘Pedlar’s Lake’, Acrylic & Mixed Media on Canvas, 61 x 91 cm.

‘For me art is a compulsion to connect with my surroundings, and create a sense of place. The process of making art is born out of innate curiosity and excitement at phenomenal occurrences around me.’

Áine Ní Chíobháin was born in Cork City but having strong family roots in Corca Dhuibhne she moved to Dingle in 2007, fully immersing herself in her homeland’s landscape. A painter and an etcher, Áine depicts the rugged and wild atmospheric depths present in our celebrated peninsula. She translates its beauty; its colour, its surface and its energy, ever shifty in light, time and space.

In this new series of work Áine delves into crepuscular rays, piseóga, marine blooms, gorse fires and much more. At times she leaps into bright neon and electric light, combining her new surroundings with her urban upbringing. It is a special selection of paintings, drawings and etchings that were created during two awarded art residencies in Cill Rialaig Art Centre, Ballinskelligs. Áine has exhibited in copious solo and group shows, most recently Áras Éanna in Inis Oirr and Cill Rialaig, Ballinskelligs; her work can be found in both corporate and private collections.
