Honora O’Neill

Honora O’Neill is a Dingle-based painter whose work offers a refined response to the landscape and cultural memory of West Kerry. Deeply connected to Chorca Dhuibhne, her practice is informed by both lived experience and inherited history, including her grandmother’s emigration from Cathair Scuilibín.

Educated at the Crawford College of Art and Design in Cork, she developed her visual language through sustained engagement with the Dingle Peninsula, returning often to sketch its cliffs and coastline in all conditions. She now works from her studio overlooking An Fear Marbh (The Sleeping Giant), where landscape and mythology quietly inform her paintings.

Founder of The Dillon Gallery (2006), O’Neill is a significant presence within Dingle’s cultural landscape. Her work is held in public and private collections in Ireland and internationally, and has been exhibited alongside leading Irish artists. Her exhibitions regularly sell out, and her work has appeared at auction, affirming its collectability. Her painting The Spirit of Dingle was commissioned for Dingle Gin and Vodka.

Working primarily in oils, O’Neill is recognised for her nuanced handling of colour and layered surfaces, capturing both the power and stillness of the Atlantic seaboard, shaped as much by memory as by observation.
