‘Boxing Hare’, Bronze, H65 x W19 x D17 cm, €1,375
Séamus Connolly is one of Ireland’s leading bronze sculptors, best known for his highly acclaimed life-size bronze portraits. These include our own Kerry GAA All-Star legend Páidí Ó’ Sé in Ventry, John B Keane in Listowel, Richard Harris in Kilkee (unveiled by Hollywood star Russell Crowe), Dermot Earley in Roscommon, Mick Mackey in Castleconnell and Frank McCourt in Limerick.
Séamus runs his own bronze foundry in Kilbaha, West Clare, and, rather uniquely, he takes all his work from inception in clay right through to being finally cast in bronze; a process that has been documented in the past by RTE, UTV and various other media outlets. Although these famed public figures are seen as Séamus’s main body of work, his heart as an artist lies in his more personal, stylized pieces. Inspired by animals and nature, Séamus has a fantastic reputation for his individual, quirky sculptures.
